1. Program

1.1  Plenary lectures on « Energy and Sustainable development » given by Damien ERNST. The teaching material for these plenary lectures has been written by Prof. Damien Ernst and his collaborators. Download the teaching material.

One book that has been very influential for the redaction of the slides is the book of the late Prof. David J.C. MacKay entitled “Sustainable Energy – without the hot air”.  Download this book.

1.2. Plenary lectures given by invited speakers that will focus on specific topics related to energy.

1.3 One group sessions per student (See Section 3).

The plenary lectures will take place in auditorium B4 A204 during the second semester, every Tuesday morning from 10:45 am to 12:45 am.

Information about the evaluation procedure for the class is summarized in Section 4.  Past exams are given in Section 5. Presentations used during the plenary lectures can be downloaded from Section 2.

3. Group sessions

During the group sessions, students will present in English a subject related to energy.  Every group will be supervised by a professor from a department of the faculty of applied sciences of the ULg as well as an English teacher. In each session, students will present their topic alongside two other group members. The subjects are assigned to the students. Every presentation will last around 15-20 minutes and will be followed by 15-20 minutes of discussion. Every session will number around 5-7 presentations. The number of students per session will be in around 20.

Please follow the guidelines about how to prepare you presentation.

Please contact Antoine LARBANOIS by email, if there are any problems with the group sessions. The groups cannot be changed after the 10th of February.

4. Evaluation

The evaluation will be based on (i) a written exam and (ii) the quality of the presentations done by the students. The written exam will count for 65% of the final grade. The presentation will count for 35% of the final grade. The material for the written exam will cover all the material from the plenary lectures. The students will be noted on three criteria for their presentations: scientific content (3/6), presentation skills (2/6) and ability to answer questions from the audience (1/6).
